GCC Receives Grant for Trail Repair

Gogebic Community College has received a grant to further work on rebuilding bridges on an old trail that runs from the base of Mount Zion north to Slade Road. According to the Daily Globe, the trail was created by GCC employees in the early 80’s. The bridge on the roughly mile long trail was damaged by flooding in 2016 and was unusable. The two bridges are important to the integrity of the trail. The Gogebic Range Health Foundation awarded the grant of $12,250 to help with the project. GCC President Dr. George McNulty said in a press release the project creates another reason for people to visit “our amazing region.” Once the bridges have been restored, the trail loop will be available to GCC students and employees, as well as community members and visitors year-round for hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
