Governor Appoints New Michigan Director of HHS After Gordon Resigns

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has appointed a new director of Health and Human Services after the sudden resignation of the current director, Robert Gordon. Gordon announced his departure without explanation this past Friday, just hours after signing a revised order to allow restaurants to resume indoor dining on Feb. 1. Gordon issued sweeping orders to curb the spread of the coronavirus after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s powers were subverted by a court ruling. Governor Whitmer has appointed Elizabeth Hertel, who will take the position immediately. Hertel currently is the agency’s senior chief deputy director for administration.
