WUPM-1 Iron Mountain Woman Arrested In Drug Investigation

LEAD: An Iron Mountain woman is arrested as the result of a drug investigation.

[VERBATIM: On Wednesday authorities from Kingsford, Iron Mountain, Norway and the Dickinson Drug Enforcement Team arrested 21-year-old Vanessa Luthier for Controlled Substance Delivery of Cocaine, Heroin, or other Narcotic Less than 50 Grams. Prosecutors say that if convicted Luthier could be in jail for 20 years and assessed up to a $25,000 fine. Lanthier is free on bail and is due back in court June 6. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News.]

WUPM-2 One Of Two Men In Plane Crash Is Found

LEAD: Searches find one of the two men involved in a plane crash after takeoff from Ontonagon.

[VERBATIM: Investigators say the body of Emanuel Manos was found Wednesday night near the aircraft which was in about 520 feet of water. The cause of death is being determined. Searchers are continuing to look for Randal Dippold who along with Manos reported engine trouble just after takeoff on May 12. Controllers directed them to the Frankfort airport but the plane ended up in the water about five miles away. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News.]

WUPM-2 Ashland OIS Suspect Identified

LEAD: Authorities identify the man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Ashland.

[VERBATIM: The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation says the man killed last Wednesday in the 800 block of 4th Avenue West is 33-year-old Joseph Tedrick. He was wanted on a federal warrant and as Tedrick tried to flee the scene he pushed a U.S. Marshal’s vehicle for a distance. Two Deputy U.S. Marshals and one Sheboygan police officer opened fire on Tedrick’s car. Ashland Police officers were not involved. The investigation is continuing. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News.]

WUPM-1 GCC Tuition Going Up

LEAD: Get ready to pay more for tuition at Gogebic Community College.

[VERBATIM: According to the Daily Globe the new tuition rates will be $124 per credit hour for in-district students, $175 per credit hour for Michigan out-of-district and the Wisconsin reciprocity area, and $204 per credit hour for out-of-state tuition. That’s an increase of $4 for in-district and $5 for out-of-district. Tuition for dual enrollment and early college students will also increase $4. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News.]

WUPM-2 Woman Injured In ATV Accident

LEAD: A woman is injured after an ATV accident in the town of Gurney.

[VERBATIM: Police say a 20-year-old woman from Ironwood was run over by a man driving his ATV on a remote area of Lake Superior Beach last Saturday as the woman was sitting on the beach. First responders stabilized the woman so they could transport her to an ambulance that was several miles away and was then airlifted to a hospital. There’s been no word on her current condition. WUPM-1 Shelter In Place Order Implemented

LEAD: A shelter-in-place order was implemented Tuesday at an Ishpeming Township school after a threat was received.

[VERBATIM: Police say the off-campus threat came in to Westwood High School around 1:00 p.m. and was deemed credible enough that school officials contacted authorities. An investigation resulted in the individual who made the threat being taken into protective custody. The order was lifted about a half-hour later and classes continued as normal. There’s been no word on the nature of the threat and the individual taken into custody was not named. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News]

WUPM-1 Search Continues For Plane Crash Survivors

LEAD: The search continues for survivors of a plane that crashed after takeoff from Ontonagon.

[VERBATIM: Investigators say Emanuel Manos and Randal Dippold reported engine trouble just after takeoff on May 12 and controllers directed them to the Frankfort airport but the plane ended up in the water about five miles away. A robot found the fuselage intact but the door was open. So far there has been no sign of either man but authorities say there is a possibility they may have escaped before the plane sunk. WUPM-2 Ashland Men Convicted Of Homicide

LEAD: Two Ashland men are convicted in a 2017 homicide.

[VERBATIM: A jury found Michael Sweet and and Brian Nelis guilty of party to first-degree intentional homicide while armed in the death of Shane Cadott. Authorities say Cadott’s body was found in a remote area of the Bad River Reservation and he had been stabbed several times plus suffered blunt force trauma. Sweet and Nellis were convicted after a three-day trial and each faces life in jail when sentencing takes place. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News]

WUPM-2 Fatal ATV Crash In Iron County

LEAD: An ATV rider is killed in an Iron County crash.

[VERBATIM: Police say a 50-year-old man died in the crash early Sunday morningthat occurred at the intersection of Spring Camp Road and Whiteside Street in the town of Pence. The rider was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are trying to determine what led up to the crash but they are saying that excessive speed and alcohol may be factors. WUPM-1 Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Scams

LEAD: The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office is warning about new phone scams making the rounds.

[VERBATIM: According to a post on the Sheriff’s Department Facebook page they’ve received reports of callers claiming to be from the Social Security Office asking for personal information including confirming your social security number. If you get one of these calls or a call demanding a payment be made via a prepaid card hang up and call authorities. I’m RP WUPM and WHRY News.]
